Atzompa, from the Nahuatl word meaning “At the top of the water”<\/h1>\n

Atzompa is situated in the center of Oaxaca state, it is an archaeological site located about 8 km west of the city of Oaxaca in Cerro del Bonete, in the town of Santa Mar\u00eda Atzompa. This site was a monumental complex belonging nearby Monte Alban, a town deeply rooted in its customs and traditions.<\/p>\n

In Atzompa, the population is dedicated to produce pottery, having has the two most important craft markets in the region; La Asunci\u00f3n and Se\u00f1or of Chores<\/strong>, where you can buy, plates, glasses, ornamental objects, lamps. You can also visit several pottery workshops where you can appreciate the elaboration of the different \u00a0pieces, you will be able to learn about the process of making green clay and its manufacturing process from the hands of the artisans.<\/p>\n

Atzompa also celebrates the day of the Dead\u2019s\u00a0 the 1st<\/sup> and 2nd<\/sup> of November, where people go to the cemetery to clean and decorate family \u00a0graves with marigold flowers, candles, and its favorite dishes. On these nights tourists and locals enjoy the darkness with the lights of the candles at the Santa Mar\u00eda Atzompa Cemetery where the tradition celebrates the people who passed away in a particular happy day of memories.<\/p>\n
